Beginners II - Latin Hymns

Here are the documents used last class as well as additional exercises which you should try doing before next class if you can.

A good tool to help you learn the rhythm of the hexameter could be these two chants (one from Virgil and another from Ovid) performed by a choir of a classical academy in Italy:

When you listen, pay a particular attention to how the first long syllable of each foot is emphasized and how it creates the rhythm.

Here are the instructions for our next class:

• finish reading the text in the “text & exercises” document;

• read the notions section and make a vocabulary list as indicated in the section;

• complete the exercises, both in-text and in the final section of the document;

• read the hymn “Alma Redemptoris Mater” in the “hymn” document.

Hello George and group of Beginner Latin II: this week I was really sick and could not attend the first class.

I will be present at the next one, and I'll try to make up for my absence.

Is the class PPT published anywhere? I would like to make a small lecture on it to prepare for next Wednesday.
